Desert Vista
High School - Since
its inception in 2002, the Desert Vista STAND & SERVE
club has effectively promoted their mission through community
service, awareness campaigns and prevention activities, including
campus wide sock, change and book drives for homeless youth,
and raising funds for the Backpack Buddies program. In 2004,
the club was awarded the City of Tempe’s Diversity Award
for the Community Group Category.
Marcos De Niza High School -
Marcos De Niza High School is hosting one of our
newest STAND & SERVE clubs. Students, staff and community
members are very supportive and participate in monthly school
and community awareness campaigns and events.
McClintock High - The
STAND & SERVE Club at McClintock grew out of campus unity
clubs and now reaches a wide variety of students through monthly
awareness campaigns and the Peer Education Program.
North High - Peer Solutions
collaborated with North High School, Arizona Quest for Kids
and Neighborhood Partners to begin a STAND & SERVE chapter
on the North High campus in 2004. The club has consistently
shown their dedication to service and violence prevention
by participating in monthly activities to support those in
need including supporting families for the holidays, book
and change drives for family centers, domestic violence shelters
and the Backpack program; and peer education and community
service projects with William T. Machan School (k-8). This
club was recently awarded special recognition from Creighton
School District for its work with Machan school.
Tempe High School - STAND
& SERVE was developed, implemented and evaluated at Tempe
High School as a pilot program in 1997 by Peer Solutions,
students, school staff and family members. For the past eight
years, students have demonstrated a commitment to mission
and vision of STAND & SERVE. The STAND & SERVE club
participates in our Peer Education Programs, which allows
them to facilitate curriculum with Middle Schools and Thomas
J. Pappas Elementary School for homeless students. This club
is the oldest of all our clubs and has received numerous awards
from the City of Tempe. Individual students have also gained
recognition for their contribution of serving the community.

Peer Educators - All
high school S&S members who are interested in taking on more
leadership responsibility and working with younger children
are encouraged to become S&S Peer Educators. As Peer Educators,
these youth work directly with middle school and elementary
school S&S club members, conducting lessons on the monthly
awareness topics, building relationships, modeling respect,
and helping facilitate outreach events. All Peer Eds undergo
40 hours of intensive training, including monthly 2-hour “2nd
Friday” trainings throughout the school year and a 2-day summer
retreat in June. Additionally, all Peer Eds from all schools
gather in July for a one-day summer curriculum development
meeting to update and improve the middle school lesson plans.
